As an extensible multimedia software developed by Apple Inc., QuickTime is able to help users deal with a number of formats of digital video, audio, picture, panoramic image, etc. QuickTime was first developed in 1991, and the latest Mac version is QuickTime X, which is currently applied to Mac OS X Snow Leopard and newer. QuickTime is bundled with macOS, so it is the built-in multimedia software on a Mac computer. QuickTime for Windows is now available as a standalone installation, and it was bundled with iTunes prior to iTunes 10.5. However, it is no longer supported and therefore security vulnerabilities will no longer be patched.
QuickTime 7 is not supported by Apple any more. New Windows since the year 2009 has newly supported the key media formats like H.264, and AAC. The QuickTime 7.7.9 supports security updates, and it is highly recommended to replace QuickTime 7 for Windows users. The QuickTime web browser plug-in is no longer installed by default and this feature has been removed from previous QuickTime. If you still want this legacy plug-in, you can add it back using the custom setup option in the installer of QuickTime.
